Circular No. 29/2023/TT-BYT provides guidelines on the content and method of recording nutritional components, nutritional values on food labels.
Decision No. 29/2023/TT-BYT issued by the Ministry of Health regulates the labeling of food products manufactured, traded, imported, and circulated in Vietnam. This decree provides guidelines on the content and manner of labeling nutritional components and values on food labels, effective from February 15, 2024.

According to the stipulations of this decree, it specifically instructs the content, method of recording nutritional components, nutritional values, and the implementation timeline for pre-packaged food products manufactured, traded, imported, and circulated in Vietnam. The essential parameters to be recorded include Energy (kcal), Protein (g), Carbohydrates (g), Fat (g), and Sodium (mg).

For beverages, processed milk with added sugar, and other sugar-added foods, additional information about total sugar content must be provided. Food items processed by frying must also include saturated fat content. In cases where a food product does not contain or contains the listed nutritional components but with values lower than those specified in Appendix I of this decree, it is not mandatory to label that nutritional component on the food label.

The nutritional components should be indicated per 100g/100ml of the food or per serving size as determined on the label or per packaging unit when the number of servings in that package is disclosed.

The Ministry of Health emphasizes that labeling of nutritional components and values on food labels must comply with the regulations of this decree and other relevant laws on product labeling and food safety.

Regarding the implementation timeline for labeling, the decree specifies that by December 31, 2025, organizations and individuals involved in the production, business, import, and circulation of food in Vietnam must comply with the labeling requirements outlined in this decree. Starting from January 1, 2026, it is prohibited to produce, print, import, and use labels that do not comply with the regulations of this decree.
