Russian Cancer Vaccine Expected to Be Circulated in Early 2025

Russia has just announced the successful development of an mRNA vaccine to treat cancer, bringing new hope in the fight against the deadly disease. The vaccine is expected to be tested on humans in 2024 and widely used from 2025. This is a major breakthrough in the field of modern medicine.

Russia’s first cancer treatment vaccine

On December 15, Tass News Agency reported: Director General of the National Medical Research Center for Radiology under the Russian Ministry of Health, Mr. Andrei Kaprin, announced that Russia has developed an mRNA vaccine to treat cancer and will provide it to patients free of charge.

The vaccine is designed to treat people who have already been diagnosed with cancer and is expected to be widely available as early as 2025, after clinical trials are completed.

The effectiveness of the Russian vaccine has been proven on animals.

Earlier, on November 10, the news site Zpravda.ru quoted Mr. Kaprin as saying that preclinical tests on animals had shown that the Russian vaccine effectively suppressed the growth of tumors and potential metastases. According to the plan, the vaccine will begin human trials in late 2024 and early 2025.

Director of the Gamaleya National Research Center for Epidemiology (DTH) and Microbiology (VSVQG), Mr. Alexander Gintsburg, affirmed that this is a therapeutic vaccine and can be applied to all types of cancer.

mRNA technology and personalization

The vaccine is based on mRNA technology, similar to that used in Pfizer and Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccines. What makes the vaccine special is its personalization: artificial intelligence (AI) will analyze each patient’s tumor information to design and produce a unique vaccine within just one week.

Trial plans for common cancers

The vaccine will be tested on common malignant cancers such as lung, kidney, pancreatic cancer, and especially small cell lung cancer – a type of cancer that kills about 1.3 million people each year.

The three main entities involved in vaccine development are:

  • Gamaleya National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology
  • Blokhin Cancer Center
  • Hertsen Institute for Cancer Research

The project is funded by the Russian government.

Cancer – a worrying disease and the leading cause of death

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), cancer is one of the leading causes of death globally. In 2022 alone, there were approximately 20 million new cancer cases and 9.7 million deaths from the disease.

With the advent of the mRNA cancer vaccine, Russia hopes to open a breakthrough in the fight against this dangerous disease, bringing hope to millions of cancer patients around the world.
